Exercise 1 - The Atwood Machine

Reproduce the following picture of the Atwood machine in Word using objects. DO NOT include the "VOID" text. It is just to prevent you from printing out this picture and handing it in :)

Hints: Create the clamp using the freeform command (Did you read example 1?). The large curved bracket is in AutoShapes. The arm of the ring stand has a circle at the left end (also, the handle of the clamp). This is done with the Arrow Style command (you need to go to More Arrows and only change the End Style). Note that the pulley wheel has a gradient. Make all text using textbox command, set the fill color to "no fill" and line color to "no line". To make the vertical "falling distance" text: there is a "change text direction" button on a toolbar that pops up when you select a textbox. This may not be available for old Word versions. Do whatever you can for "falling distance" (you can also try using WordArt). You might have trouble aligning the small rectangle above the weights with the string. Try this: make the weight and the little rectangle slightly larger so that the rectangle will align centered on the weight. Then group the two objects and scale it down so it would fit below the string.
